Active Flag

This year our school will be renewing the Active Flag. This is our first time to renew the Active Flag after receiving our first flag in 2021. Since then our school have been taking part in regular activities to keep fit and healthy. Some of the activities have included: European Week of Sport, Run around Ireland/Europe, Active Week, Sports Day, Soccer Competitions, Cross Country, External Coaches and weekly PE lessons.

Most recently in September the children took part in a week of sport learning all about relays. The children got to work together and learn the skills involved in these races. They really enjoyed getting to see some of the Irish Olympians take part in their races through online videos.

Some key dates for the diary this year are:

Nov 18th-Dec 13 Active Breaks Challenge
March 31st-May 9 Skip Around Europe
               May 6th-9th Active School Week
               May 9th Skipping Takeover

We are officially an ‘Active School’! Congratulations to all our children, staff and parents for helping us to make this happen.

On Friday, 11th of November we were awarded with our first Active School Flag (ASF).

The ASF status will remain valid for 3 years. In the interim years, between flags, we will continue to

  • Prioritise a different PE strand for further development every year
  • Participate in ASF annual initiatives including the ‘Active Break Every Day’ and ‘Run a Day’ challenges and ‘Active School Week’
  • Promote use of the Active School Walkway throughout the school year
  • Update the ASF section on the school website on a regular basis.

We currently have a Gaelic Coach in the school and are participating in the ‘Active Break Every Day’ challenge.

This year we have chosen ‘Gymnastics’ as our strand to prioritise this year. We have got some new gymnastics mats and look forward to working on this strand during the school year.
